At least 650 members of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) on Thursday defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gobirawa Ward, Dala Local Government Area, as well as parts of Fagge and Ungoggo Local Government Areas of Kano State.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the defectors, wNew Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP)ho arrived in groups under different leadership structures, were received by the Managing Director of the Hadejia-Jama’are River Basin Development Authority, Rabiu Bichi.
Bichi welcomed the new members, attributing their defection to President Bola Tinubu’s leadership style and the APC’s dedication to fairness, inclusiveness, and delivery of democratic dividends.
He pointed to the achievements of the Renewed Hope Agenda, including the students’ loan initiative, agricultural development projects, and various empowerment programmes targeting youths and women.
The managing director revealed that his agency was partnering with the Bank of Agriculture to offer soft loans to farmers as part of efforts to achieve sustainable food security.
Bichi assured the defectors that they would enjoy the same rights and benefits as existing APC members, reiterating the party’s dedication to fairness and national progress.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Alhaji Ahmad Gobirawa stated that their decision to join the APC was influenced by the remarkable progress made by President Tinubu in less than two years of governance.
They expressed confidence that their move would help consolidate the APC’s strength and support base within Kano State and beyond.
The event, attended by prominent party members, community heads, and youth associations, was hailed as a major political boost for the APC in Kano, particularly amid its revitalised grassroots mobilisation drive across the state.
The mass defection was viewed as a significant victory for the APC, reflecting its growing influence and effective engagement at the grassroots level.
