The Fusengbuwa Ruling House of Ijebu land has rejected claims by Fuji musician Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as KWAM1, that he is being excluded from the process to select the next Awujale.

In a letter dated January 8, 2026, written by his lawyer Dr. Wahab Shittu (SAN), KWAM1 alleged that the ruling house, next in line to produce the new Awujale, issued directives that conflict with the Chieftaincy Declaration and the Obas and Chiefs Law of Ogun State, claiming these measures were intended to block him from contesting for the throne.

Responding to the protest, the Vice Chairman of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, Prof. Fassy Yusuf, dismissed KWAM1’s claims as “arrant nonsense,” insisting they have no bearing on the selection process.

Speaking on Sunday, Yusuf said: “It is a misguided letter. Either Wahab Shittu is being misled or Wasiu Ayinde is being misled. The issue being raised about the screening is illogical. We have over 20,000 members in the ruling house. How does he expect us to manage the crowd? The letter was directed to the government, and they will respond appropriately.”

He added that the family has scheduled Monday for the nomination meeting of aspirants for the vacant stool.

The selection for the new Awujale has reportedly attracted over 60 aspirants, with KWAM1 openly declaring his interest. However, the Fusengbuwa family maintains that the musician is not a member of the ruling house and is therefore ineligible to participate in the process.

Earlier, KWAM1 had approached the Ogun State High Court in Ijebu-Ode seeking an interim injunction to halt the selection, but the court dismissed the application for lack of merit. The musician later withdrew the suit through his lawyer without providing a reason.

Following intervention by the state government, the ruling house temporarily suspended the nomination process and has since restarted it to ensure the process is conducted properly.
