ADC Criticizes FG Attempt To Arrst El Rufai
The African Democratic Congress has criticised what it described as an attempt by security operatives to detain former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai in Abuja.
The party said the move raises fresh fears about the state of Nigeria’s democracy and the treatment of opposition figures.
The incident reportedly took place on Thursday at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport shortly after El-Rufai arrived.
Witnesses claimed armed personnel approached him and tried to lead him away, creating tension at the terminal.
The ADC said no arrest warrant was shown at the time and warned that such actions could weaken trust in the rule of law.
It maintained that while no one is above the law, due process must be respected and applied fairly to all political actors.
The party also accused the APC-led administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of allowing a climate where critics face pressure while others with pending allegations are embraced.
It added that democracy must be protected through lawful conduct, not intimidation, and vowed to keep watch over developments.
