ADC Factions Forces INEC To Recognise Some Leaders
A fresh leadership crisis has hit the African Democratic Congress as a faction led by Nafiu Bala asks Independent National Electoral Commission to stop recognising David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola as party leaders.
The move follows a ruling by the Court of Appeal, which dismissed an appeal filed by Mark and directed all parties to maintain the status quo pending the final decision of the lower court.
Bala’s camp argues that this order supports their push to take control of the party leadership.
However, opposing legal opinions have urged INEC not to act on the request, insisting the current leadership structure should remain until the substantive case is decided.
The dispute has further deepened divisions within the party.
Amid the crisis, allegations emerged linking the Presidency and the All Progressives Congress to attempts to influence INEC, claims the ruling party has strongly denied, describing them as baseless.
The situation leaves the party in uncertainty as legal battles continue, with INEC expected to tread carefully while awaiting a final court ruling.
