ADC Moves To Calm Internal Rivalry
The African Democratic Congress has warned that rigid loyalty to a single presidential hopeful could weaken the party’s chances in the 2027 general election.
The party said supporters who insist on only one preferred candidate risk creating cracks that could cost the opposition victory.
The caution came on Saturday during the ADC Coalition Hours held online. The party’s National Publicity Secretary said the message was aimed at supporters of all declared aspirants, urging them to see the race as a collective effort rather than a personal battle.
The ADC became the coalition platform for opposition figures in mid-2025 as plans began to challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
Since then, the party leadership has focused on expanding its presence nationwide and building trust among voters, with several high-profile politicians joining and signalling interest in the presidential ticket.
Tensions have started to surface among supporters, especially around zoning and who should lead the ticket. Backers of different aspirants have taken firm positions, creating debates that party leaders fear could distract from the main goal of winning power at the polls.
The party leadership says it is already engaging key figures and stakeholders to calm tensions and push according to ADC officials, all aspirants are considered capable, and attacking rivals within the party only plays into the hands of the ruling party.
The ADC says it plans to intensify internal dialogue and encourage leaders at all levels to speak with one voice.
The party insists that unity, patience after primaries, and broad support across regions are essential if it hopes to convert public dissatisfaction into electoral success in 2027
