The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has called on the Federal Government to broaden its fight against terrorism by targeting not only insurgents but also their sponsors.
Speaking during the November Holy Ghost Service at the Redemption City Campground, Adeboye said the war on terror would only be effective when those financing the bloodshed are identified and prosecuted, no matter their position or political power.
“When giving orders to the service chiefs this time around, the President should make it clear that they are not only to eliminate the terrorists but also the sponsors, no matter how powerful they may be,” he said.
Adeboye urged President Bola Tinubu to act with firmness and diplomacy to end the wave of killings ravaging the country. He warned that Nigeria should not depend on foreign nations for rescue in the event of a full-blown crisis, insisting that homegrown solutions were necessary.
He also reacted to President Tinubu’s recent claim that security had improved, saying the statement did not reflect the real experiences of ordinary Nigerians.
“I almost spoke last month when I heard the section of the President’s speech that claimed all is well. Whoever wrote that part of the speech does not like him. People are still being killed and displaced,” Adeboye remarked.
The cleric urged the government to focus on tangible results instead of optimistic rhetoric, acknowledging that while the security challenges did not begin under the current administration, they must be dealt with decisively.
He further appealed for national unity, recalling a time when Christians and Muslims coexisted peacefully before politics caused deep divisions.
Adeboye concluded with hope that peace would one day return to Nigeria, encouraging citizens to remain prayerful and steadfast.
