APC Explains e- transmission Electoral Act Changes
The All Progressives Congress has defended the National Assembly’s decision on real-time electronic transmission of election results in the amended Electoral Act.
Speaking on Monday, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka said lawmakers acted with caution after weighing Nigeria’s current technological limits.
His remarks came after President Bola Tinubu signed the revised Electoral Act into law less than a day after it was passed by both chambers of the National Assembly.
The speed of the assent has drawn public debate, with some critics raising concerns over the changes.
Morka maintained that the decision was not made by one party alone, noting that several political parties are represented in the legislature.
According to him, the final version of the law reflects a joint outcome of discussions and votes by members across party lines.
He added that unstable internet access in many parts of the country makes full real-time transmission difficult.
Using his experience of struggling with network connectivity outside Lagos and Abuja, he argued that election reforms must match the country’s present infrastructure realities.
