APC Faces Pressure Over Ibadan Ticket
Stakeholders in Ibadan North-East have urged the All Progressives Congress to ensure fairness in picking its candidate for the 2027 elections.
They warned that choosing an ineligible or unbalanced candidate could hurt the party’s chances. The call comes amid concerns over how tickets have been shared in the past.
The group said there is a pattern of one-sided representation favouring Ibadan South-East over the years.
They pointed to past elections, noting that the area has produced more representatives in the constituency. This, they argued, has created a sense of exclusion among Ibadan North-East residents.
“Consider the historical record. Between 1999 and 2003, Kazeem Adeshile from Ibadan Southeast held the seat. He was followed by Taofeek Arapaja, also from Ibadan Southeast, from 2003 to 2007.
“Then came Olusefun Akinloye from Ibadan Northeast (2007–2011), and Bukola Ajaja again from Ibadan Northeast (2011–2015).
But since 2015, the pendulum has swung entirely in one direction: Dapo Lam Adesina (Ibadan Southeast, 2015–2019), followed by Abass Agboworin (Ibadan Southeast, 2019–2023), and again Abass Agboworin (2023–2027).
The people of Ibadan Northeast are not asking for charity. They are demanding their rightful turn, grounded in demographic reality, historical inequity, and democratic principle.
As the 2027 elections approach, the APC leadership must act with foresight.
The stakeholders insisted that fairness should guide the party’s decision as the elections approach.
They warned that ignoring the demand could weaken support and affect unity within the constituency.
The group said the next candidate must come from Ibadan North-East to restore balance.
