Autopsy Hurdle In Adichie Son Case
The coroner’s inquest into the death of 21-month-old Nkanu Nnamdi Esege, son of renowned Nigerian author Chimamanda Adichie, has hit a setback after it was revealed that the toddler was cremated.
The development has left the court without key forensic evidence needed to establish the exact cause of his death.
Nkanu, one of Adichie’s twins, passed away on January 7, 2026, after complications arose during a sequence of preparatory medical procedures.
His death shocked many and quickly drew public attention.
Following the incident, Adichie served the hospital with a legal notice, accusing it of medical negligence and professional misconduct.
She maintained that lapses in care played a role in the tragic outcome.
With the cremation now confirmed, the inquest faces fresh challenges as the court works to determine what led to the child’s death without the benefit of a post-mortem examination.
