President Bola Tinubu is set to embark on a two-nation trip today, beginning in Johannesburg, South Africa, before heading to Luanda, Angola.

According to his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu will first attend the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg. After the summit, he will proceed to Angola for the AU–EU Summit.

The G20 meeting, holding at the Johannesburg Expo Centre from November 22 to 23, is the first to be hosted on African soil. This year’s theme, “Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability,” will guide discussions on inclusive growth, debt challenges, disaster-risk reduction, climate action, energy transition, food systems, critical minerals, decent work, and artificial intelligence.

Tinubu, invited by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, will also hold bilateral meetings on the sidelines to push the Renewed Hope Agenda and address regional peace, security, and development. The African Union, now a full G20 member alongside the EU, will participate in the summit.

From Johannesburg, Tinubu will travel to Luanda for the AU–EU Summit scheduled for November 24 to 25. The gathering will bring together leaders, innovators, and civil society to deliberate on climate issues, infrastructure, digital transformation, creative industries, manufacturing, and agribusiness.

Tinubu is traveling with key officials, including the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Finance and the Economy, Solid Minerals, Trade and Investment, and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency.

Onanuga said the President will return to Nigeria after both engagements. This will be Tinubu’s third visit to South Africa since taking office, but his first official trip to Angola as President.
