US State Department Deputy Secretary Christopher Landau on Thursday warned that foreigners, including Nigerians, who celebrate the killing of right-wing influencer Charlie Kirk online risk having their visas revoked, urging social media users to report such posts.

In a message on X, Landau said, “Following yesterday’s tragic assassination of a prominent political figure, I want to stress that foreigners who glorify violence or hatred are not welcome in the United States. I am disturbed by social media posts praising, justifying, or making light of this attack and have instructed our consular officers to take appropriate action. Please bring any such comments by foreigners to my attention so that the @StateDept can safeguard the American people.”

The statement quickly drew reactions from users pointing out online posts allegedly made by foreign residents in the US, with calls for their visas to be revoked. Landau encouraged users to continue reporting such content directly to him and assured that the State Department would review the posts.

Kirk, 31, a close ally of President Donald Trump and a leading voice in rallying young conservatives, was shot dead Wednesday while speaking at a university in Utah.
