A Chinese expatriate abducted on 5 September 2025 at the BUA Cement Plant in Okpella, Edo State, has regained his freedom after more than three months in captivity.
The victim, identified as Mr. Wang, was kidnapped when armed attackers invaded the cement facility, killing eight personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC.
In a statement, the Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, Moses Yamu, confirmed that the expatriate was freed on 2 December 2025 at about 11:30 p.m. in Kabba, Kogi State.
According to Yamu, the rescue was achieved through sustained technical and tactical operations jointly carried out by the Edo and Kogi State Police Commands, supported by vigilante groups and local hunters.
He added that the Command appreciated all partners who contributed to the successful operation.
The Police Command did not disclose whether any ransom was paid for Mr. Wang’s release.
It was also learnt that the expatriate departed Nigeria immediately after his release and has since returned to China.
The Command provided no new details on efforts to apprehend the suspected kidnappers.
