The Department of State Services (DSS) has formally charged 27-year-old Innocent Chukwuemeka Onukwume with six counts related to his alleged calls for a military coup to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s government. Onukwume, from Umusayo Layout in Rivers State, reportedly made these calls in tweets on his X account (@theagroman) last October.
The charges, filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja (Case No: FHC/ABJ/CR/610/2025) on November 11 by DSS counsel A. M. Danalami, accuse him of soliciting military help to carry out the coup.
Among his posts, Onukwume allegedly wrote: “A coup in Nigeria is needed. Dispose of APC, suspend the Nigerian government and join the AES. That is all we need now.” He also reportedly declared, “Tinubu has to go, and APC has to die for Nigeria to have any semblance of normal life. And if you think your stupid, votes can remove Tinubu. I’m here to tell you that you’re a fool.”
The DSS stated that his online messages violate Sections 46A(1) and 59(1) of the Criminal Code Act and the Cybercrimes Act 2024, which carry legal penalties.
Onukwume was arrested in Port Harcourt last month after intelligence monitoring flagged his posts as a national security threat. His court trial is expected to start later this week.
