Court Sets Bail Application For El Rufai
Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, appeared before the Federal High Court in Kaduna after 38 days in custody, facing a 10-count charge from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.
The allegations involve money laundering and possession of public property. The court set March 31, 2026, to hear pending applications, including a bail request.
No bail application was made on the day of arraignment, and the matter was adjourned for the end of the month.
Demonstrators claimed the charges were politically motivated and criticised the handling of his detention, including lack of family access during Ramadan.
They argued the delays in arraignment undermine democratic norms.
Security around the court was tight, with DSS, police, and other agencies deployed to control traffic and access. Journalists were barred from the courtroom.
The ICPC confirmed additional charges against El-Rufai and another individual are pending in a Kaduna State High Court, relating to abuse of office and fraud, following his earlier arrest by the EFCC.
