Deputy Governor Faces Impeachment
The Kano State House of Assembly on Thursday began impeachment proceedings against Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, accusing him of misconduct, abuse of office and breach of public trust.
The move was presented during plenary by Majority Leader Lawan Dala and read by Speaker Ismail Falgore.
Lawmakers said the process follows Section 188 of the 1999 Constitution, which allows a state legislature to begin impeachment steps against a deputy governor accused of gross misconduct.
A total of 38 members of the assembly endorsed the notice, and the Speaker directed that Abdulsalam be formally served so the constitutional process can proceed.
The crisis comes after Abba Kabir Yusuf left the New Nigeria Peoples Party for the All Progressives Congress last year.
Abdulsalam chose to remain in the NNPP, a decision that deepened political tensions within the state government and set the stage for the current move against him.
