The Department of State Services has reportedly apprehended a medical doctor alleged to be providing drugs to kidnapping gangs active in parts of Kwara State.
The suspect, whose identity was not confirmed at the time of reporting, was intercepted in the Jebba area following intelligence that couriers were transporting medical supplies from Sokoto to treat wounded bandits hiding in forests throughout the state.
Security sources revealed that several criminal groups have sustained gunshot wounds in recent clashes with security forces.
“So, we are advising enhanced security measures at health facilities in densely forested regions, which kidnappers might target,” a security official stated.
Confirming the arrest, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Kwara State, Rafiu Ajakaye, described the development as a significant breakthrough in ongoing anti-banditry operations.
“This is a major achievement by the DSS. It demonstrates that security agencies are tightening the noose on these criminals and cutting off the support networks that sustain their activities,” he said.
Ajakaye further stated that the state government will maintain and deepen cooperation with security agencies to eliminate all channels that facilitate kidnapping.
