Governor Francis Nwifuru announced the actions during a visit to the area after assailants allegedly beheaded the victims and took away their heads.

The governor ordered the withdrawal of staff of office from traditional rulers in the Amasiri clan of Afikpo Local Government Area and dissolved the political and traditional leadership of the community.

He also removed the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Prof. Amari Omaka, who is from the area, alongside other political appointees linked to Amasiri.

Nwifuru said the violence was unacceptable and warned residents against retaliation, stressing that such actions would only deepen the crisis.

He explained that the conflict had dragged on for years despite peace meetings and boundary agreements, which were often broken. According to him, the state would no longer tolerate lawlessness or disregard for authority.

He assured affected communities that those responsible would face consequences and promised stronger government intervention to restore peace in Edda Local Government Area.

The governor said the measures taken were meant to halt further bloodshed and send a clear message that violence would not be allowed to continue in the state.
