EFCC Moves To Seize Malami Assets
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has asked a Federal High Court in Abuja to approve the final forfeiture of 57 properties linked to Abubakar Malami.
The request follows an earlier interim order tied to alleged unlawful assets.
The agency told Justice Joyce Abdulmalik that the respondents failed to provide enough evidence to stop the forfeiture.
It said the case is based on non conviction proceedings and that the law allows the court to grant the request.
According to the commission, investigations involved financial records, land checks and agency reports across several states.
It claimed the value of the properties does not match Malami’s earnings while in office and alleged that some assets were acquired through proxies and linked companies.
The properties are spread across Abuja, Kebbi, Kano and Kaduna, and are estimated at about N213.2bn. The court has fixed April 21 for hearing as the case continues following earlier challenges by the respondents.
