FCT Workers Risk Sanctions If They Fail To Resume – Wike
Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has warned that any worker of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) who fails to resume duty on Wednesday, January 28, will face disciplinary action.
Wike issued the warning on Tuesday while speaking with journalists in Abuja, shortly after the National Industrial Court ordered FCTA workers to suspend their ongoing strike.
According to the minister, the government will no longer tolerate any form of disobedience to the court order or disruption of official activities.
“From tomorrow, if you don’t come to work, we are going to apply the big stick. If anybody attempts to block the gate or stop others from working, we will make such a person a scapegoat. The law must take its course,” Wike said.
He explained that the FCT Administration had engaged extensively with labour unions and discussed all grievances raised by workers, insisting that most of the demands had already been addressed.
Wike questioned the continued strike, noting that government had responded to 10 out of the 14 demands presented by the unions.
“If workers made 14 demands and government has addressed 10 of them, what then is the real issue?” he asked.
The minister also claimed that repeated attempts by the FCT management and security agencies to resolve the matter through dialogue were unsuccessful, adding that political interests may be influencing the dispute.
FCTA workers embarked on an indefinite strike last week over unresolved welfare and labour issues, leading to the shutdown of several government offices and services across the territory.
