Fubara Addresses ADC Support Claims
Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of Rivers State, has denied claims that he is backing candidates of the African Democratic Congress ahead of the bye-election fixed for February 21, 2026. He said the story being spread does not reflect his position or actions.
The clarification comes as the Independent National Electoral Commission prepares to fill two vacant seats in the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The poll will hold in Ahoada East State Constituency II and Khana State Constituency II, following preparations by political parties in the state.
The All Progressives Congress recently held its primaries and produced Napoleon Ukalikpen and Bulabari Henrietta Loolo as candidates.
Both aspirants are known to be close to former governor and current FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, a development that sparked talks of division within the party.
Reacting to the reports, Fubara dismissed the claims as false and misleading. He said those pushing the narrative are trying to stir trouble within the APC. The APC in Rivers State is one family.
What happened was that in the build-up to the primaries, the president Tinubu intervened and asked everyone to support the candidates of the former governor and Minister of the FCT.
So, if these candidates are members of the APC and we are all members of the same party, how can I be supporting the candidates of another political party. These are blatant lies from the pit of hell.
The governor added that political distractions should not derail the focus of the party or the state. He assured APC members of his loyalty and urged residents to concentrate on development as the bye-election approaches.
