FG Bans Cash Tax Collection
The Federal Government on Tuesday announced a ban on cash payments for taxes and prohibited the use of roadblocks for revenue enforcement.
The move is part of fresh regulations to implement new tax laws across the country. Authorities aim to modernise tax collection and ensure smoother compliance for citizens and businesses.
The regulations were introduced to reduce harassment and delays caused by traditional tax enforcement methods.
Government officials explained that all tax payments must now be electronic or through approved channels.
The change is expected to make the system more transparent and efficient.
The new rules affect both individuals and companies, who will no longer be required to pay in cash.
Roadblocks previously used to collect taxes have been removed nationwide, ending a long-standing practice that often disrupted travel and trade.
The government said enforcement will now rely on digital monitoring and formal reporting.
Officials added that the reform aligns with broader efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s tax framework and improve revenue mobilisation.
Citizens and businesses are encouraged to adopt the electronic platforms provided for tax payments to comply with the new laws and avoid penalties.
