The Federal Government has announced a public holiday for Christmas, Boxing Day, and New Year celebrations.
December 25 and 26, 2025, will be observed as Christmas Day and Boxing Day, while January 1, 2026, will mark the New Year’s public holiday.
This was revealed in a statement by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr Magdalene Ajani.
The minister encouraged Nigerians to use the Christmas period to reflect on values such as love, peace, humility, and sacrifice, which relate to the birth of Jesus Christ.
He urged citizens of all religions and ethnicities to pray for peace, enhanced security, and national progress during the festive season.
Additionally, Tunji-Ojo advised Nigerians to remain law-abiding and vigilant about security while celebrating. He extended warm wishes for a joyful Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
