Fire Fighters Abandon Blazing Tanker In Minna
Firefighters pulled back from a raging petrol tanker fire in Minna, Niger State, after running out of water and fire control chemicals.
The incident happened on Saturday along the Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe Western Bypass, triggering panic in a busy area of the state capital.
The tanker, loaded with premium motor spirit, overturned near Mandela Junction, close to the National Examinations Council office and not far from the State House of Assembly and secretariat.
Fuel spilled across the road, raising fears of a wider disaster as flames spread.
Reports indicate the vehicle had just left the NNPC Mega Station when it caught fire.
The driver reportedly managed to move it out of the filling station before it overturned. Federal and state fire services later left the scene, citing a lack of resources as the fire grew more intense.
The driver suffered partial burns and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. At the time of reporting, the cause of the fire had not been determined, while residents and motorists were urged to stay away from the area
