Group Urges Jonathan To Return For 2027
A group in Nigeria’s Middle Belt has asked former president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to consider returning to national leadership ahead of the 2027 general election, citing the need for steady leadership during difficult times.
The appeal came from the New Nigeria Integrity Movement after a strategic meeting of its Middle Belt zone.
The organisation said the country is facing rising insecurity, deepening poverty and worsening living conditions, especially across communities in the Middle Belt.
Members said many Nigerians are now struggling daily to feed their families as economic hardship spreads.
The group argued that while infrastructure projects are important for long-term development, they do little to address the immediate hunger and financial pressure affecting millions of citizens.
It urged Jonathan to bring his experience back into national service to help tackle the current challenges.
According to the movement, the former leader is seen as a calm and experienced figure whose past administration showed respect for democratic values, the rule of law and national unity.
It added that his possible return could also help reinforce power rotation and restore trust in governance.
