ADC Suspends Chairman
The African Democratic Congress in Nasarawa State has suspended its chairman, Godwin Williams, over allegations of actions said to be harmful to the party.
The decision was taken by the party’s Transitional Leadership Team during a meeting held on Wednesday in Keffi Local Government Area.
The suspension followed a petition submitted against Williams, accusing him of conduct believed to threaten unity and progress within the party.
Party officials said the issues raised were serious enough to warrant immediate action while an internal review is carried out.
According to the ADC leadership in the state, the suspension will last for 14 days while a Disciplinary Committee investigates the allegations.
The committee is expected to examine claims ranging from refusal to recognise the party’s national leadership to alleged obstruction of membership registration and the setting up of parallel party structures.
Following the decision, the party announced interim changes to its leadership. Former state secretary Paul Ajeh was named acting chairman, while Umar Babayaro was appointed acting secretary to oversee party affairs during the suspension period.
Williams has rejected the action, insisting that the suspension has no legal backing. He argued that those behind the move lack the authority to act on behalf of the party and accused them of working against the ADC ahead of the 2027 elections, maintaining that he remains the legitimate state chairman.
