Nollywood actor and filmmaker Daniel Etim-Effiong has disclosed that he always prays before acting kissing scenes in films.
He explained that his faith influences the choices he makes in his career, and he seeks God’s guidance before accepting romantic roles.
During an appearance on Channels Television’s programme Rubbin’ Minds, Etim-Effiong noted that many Nollywood producers include kissing scenes in their movies because they attract viewers and generate more interest.
He stated that this practice is driven by market demand, as audiences often enjoy romantic expressions in films.
The actor, who has been criticised publicly for frequently appearing in romantic roles, said that he remains focused on his purpose and the quality of his craft.
He described acting as a divine calling and a form of worship, explaining that it allows him to share impactful stories that motivate others.
Etim-Effiong, who transitioned from engineering to filmmaking, mentioned that his faith and family keep him humble and focused.
He added that prayer provides him with peace and clarity, particularly when taking on roles that involve physical closeness on screen.
He said, “The fact that I play a lot of romantic roles in the industry today means that I get to have kissing scenes sometimes. People feel it’s become one too many, but the question should go to the producers. Why are they expressing affection and intimacy only a certain way? There are several other ways you can show affection. There are downsides to everything, but when you’re a focused person, you don’t let naysayers get to you. You just focus on your business and do what you have to do.
“I get all my inspiration from God. I go on my knees and pray before I go to set and kiss. My family is my garden, then my work.
“It becomes a purpose to me, and that’s why I had the courage to quit engineering, a well-paying job, to go into storytelling. It felt like a calling. I have no problem acting and telling stories that inspire people; it’s a form of worship.”
