IGP Wins Temporary Relief In Court Against Sowore
A High Court in Abuja has restrained activist Omoyele Sowore and online platform Sahara Reporters from publishing materials considered defamatory against the Inspector General of Police, Dr Kayode Egbetokun.
The order was issued by Justice J.O.E Adeyemi-Ajayi, who is sitting at the Life Camp division of the court.
The interim injunction followed an application filed in a suit linked to alleged defamatory publications about the police chief.
The court directed that Sowore and his media outlet must halt any further reports or related content pending the determination of the case before it.
The judge granted the temporary order to preserve the subject of the dispute while the substantive matter is being heard.
The decision means that no fresh material deemed defamatory against the IGP should be published until the court gives further direction.
The development marks the latest legal move in the dispute between the police leadership and the publisher, as the case now proceeds to the next stage in court.
