The Lagos State Police Command has cleared House on the Rock Senior Pastor, Paul Adefarasin, of any wrongdoing after a viral video showed him holding what many believed was a firearm.

Police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi said in a statement on Wednesday that Adefarasin voluntarily appeared at the command’s headquarters in Ikeja for questioning.

Investigations revealed that the object in the video was a stun gun, not a lethal weapon.

“After a thorough investigation, including interrogation and a cautionary statement from Pastor Adefarasin, it was established that the object in question was a stun gun and not a lethal weapon or firearm.

“Consequent to our findings, the Lagos State Police Command has determined that there are no sufficient grounds to proceed with the matter. The case is hereby discontinued,” the statement read.

The command emphasized its commitment to transparency, the rule of law, and public safety.

This development marks a shift from June, when Lagos Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh said pointing a stun gun at someone could amount to a criminal offence under Nigerian law. Speaking on Channels Television, Jimoh noted that stun guns are classified as prohibited riot-control equipment and warned that using them to intimidate others could attract legal consequences.

At the time, the police had stated that both Adefarasin and the individual seen in the clip would be questioned.

The viral video, which surfaced in June, showed Adefarasin seated in a Range Rover holding the device during an exchange with another person. The pastor consistently denied brandishing a firearm, maintaining it was a non-lethal object.
