US President Donald Trump has voiced strong anger over the ongoing killings of Christians in Nigeria, describing the situation as a genocide.
Speaking on a conservative radio show on Friday, Trump highlighted that thousands of Christians are losing their lives in Nigeria due to violence by Islamic extremists. He sharply criticised the Nigerian government for failing to protect its Christian population.
Trump previously labelled Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern” because of these attacks and warned of possible military intervention to stop the bloodshed, calling Nigeria “a disgrace.”
During the radio interview, he hinted that the US may halt all financial aid to Nigeria as the next step if no improvements are made.
“Nigeria is a disgrace. Thousands are being killed. This is genocide, and I’m very angry about it. We send them a lot of aid, but that may stop soon,” Trump said, reaffirming his threat to take action against militants if the Nigerian government does not do more to safeguard Christians.
