Veteran musician Jazzman Olofin has publicly called out Adekunle Gold for performing his 22-year-old hit “Raise Da Roof” during a London concert without prior permission or credit.
In a playful social media post, Jazzman Olofin expressed both surprise and amusement at the performance, questioning why Adekunle Gold went to such lengths to rehearse the classic with a full live band for the show.
While acknowledging that paying tribute or drawing artistic inspiration is common, Jazzman Olofin stressed that the rendition went beyond a simple homage. He also took the opportunity to assert his continued relevance in the music industry.
Extending an olive branch, the veteran musician invited Adekunle Gold to reach out for future collaborations.
He wrote in full:
“HA!!! WETIN DEY HAPPUN FOR HERE? LOL.
I’ve got no issue with an artiste freestyling another artist’s song on stage for a second as a sign of respect. It’s cool.
BUT when you go thru a great length to actually rehearse my 22 years old monster hit song (Raise Da Roof) with your one million man live band in preparation for your show/concert in London, haba…
I may be a little too old to be singing your generation’s music, but I’m certainly not too old to spend your generation’s money.
Mr @adekunlegold, I’m very much alive and still actively performing. Don’t beat around the bush. Next time call baba.”
