Kaduna Community Protests As Bandits Overrun 18 Villages
Residents of Kaso, a Gbagyi community in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, have raised alarm over worsening insecurity that has forced people out of their homes and shut down schools.
The unrest has affected several nearby villages, leaving families displaced and daily life disrupted.
The protest, held in Maraban Rido, followed months of repeated attacks blamed on bandits operating around the area.
Community leaders said at least 18 villages around Rido, Kujama, Kakau and parts of Kajuru Local Government have been emptied, while 13 primary schools have stopped operating due to safety concerns.
Local youths and displaced village heads explained that kidnappings, motorcycle theft and ransom payments have become common in recent months.
Many farmers have abandoned their land, fearing fresh attacks, while health centres and other basic services have stopped functioning across the affected areas.
The protesters called on Governor Uba Sani to act quickly by deploying a military strike force to Kurmin Kaso.
They warned that without urgent action, more communities could be forced to flee, deepening the humanitarian and security crisis in Kaduna’s outskirts.
