Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has approved the implementation of 70 per cent of the 2024 CONPCASS/CONTEDISS salary structure for employees of all state-owned tertiary institutions.
The implementation is scheduled to commence in October 2025.
This approval came after a meeting between the governor and the leadership of the Joint Union of Tertiary Institutions (JUTIKS), which resulted in the suspension of the month-long strike by both academic and non-academic staff.
The meeting, held at the Government House in Kaduna, was facilitated by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and had representatives from Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, the College of Education Gidan Waya, and the Kaduna State College of Nursing and Midwifery in attendance.
Governor Sani stated that the decision reflects his administration’s commitment to enhancing workers’ welfare and improving the education sector.
“The welfare of our workers remains a priority. We are determined to build a fair and motivated workforce that drives excellence in our institutions,” the governor said.
Union leaders praised the governor’s intervention, describing it as a clear display of sincerity and responsible leadership.
They also confirmed that the new arrangement includes an extension of the retirement age to 65 years and 40 years of service for non-teaching staff.
The strike, which commenced on September 30, has now been officially suspended following the agreement reached.
