The Labour Party, under the leadership of Senator Nenadi Usman, has unveiled its timetable of activities as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
Details of the schedule were contained in a document dated November 17, 2025, which was submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and officially acknowledged on November 21, 2025.
According to the timetable, the party’s National Convention is scheduled to take place on February 28, 2026.
The outlined activities also include the inauguration of the National Steering Committee for membership revalidation and new registration, alongside the launch of a nationwide membership mobilisation initiative tagged Labour Party Connect 10 Million Nigerians. The exercise commenced on December 17, 2025, and is expected to conclude on January 10, 2026.
Ward congresses are slated for January 13, followed by Local Government Congresses on January 17. State Congresses will hold on January 24, while Zonal Congresses are scheduled for January 31.
Speaking at the inauguration of the steering committee for membership revalidation and registration in Abuja, the Interim National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, called on Nigerians to align with the Labour Party in its effort to reposition Nigeria’s democracy.
She said: “As we are all aware, our party, like many opposition political platforms in Nigeria, has, in recent times, passed through a period of intense challenges and distractions.
“I am pleased to state that the majority of these issues have been decisively resolved by the courts, while the few remaining matters are still before the judiciary. We remain confident that they too will soon be conclusively settled in the interest of justice and democracy.
“As we prepare to enter the election season next year, the Labour Party considers it both necessary and strategic to reposition, reorganise, and strengthen itself for the bigger responsibilities and opportunities that lie ahead.
“It is in furtherance of this objective that we are formally launching this membership revalidation and registration exercise today.”
Usman noted that growing and strengthening the party’s membership base has been a top priority since she assumed office, expressing regret that earlier internal challenges delayed the exercise.
“However, with the launch today and the newly approved timetable, I am confident that we will not only recover lost ground but emerge stronger, more united, and better prepared for the task ahead,” she added.
She urged existing members to promptly revalidate their membership and encouraged Nigerians of goodwill to “seize this opportunity to register and formally become members of the Labour Party.”
Reaffirming the party’s direction, Usman assured Nigerians that the Labour Party under her leadership remains committed to offering a credible, people-focused political alternative.
Also speaking at the event, the Interim National Secretary, Senator Darlington Nwokocha, who administered the oath of office to members of the National Steering Committee, urged them to carry out their duties with fairness and commitment.
He disclosed that no fewer than 10 million Nigerians are expected to be fully registered as members by the end of the exercise.
