Former Attorney General of the Federation Abubakar Malami returned to the Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday through his lawyers and close allies as efforts continued to secure his release from Kuje Correctional Centre.
The move followed a fresh twist in his bail process after one of the sureties reportedly signalled plans to withdraw, even though the bail had already been approved and signed by the court a day earlier.
The legal team approached Justice Emeke Nwite to seek clarity and support to avoid complications that could delay Malami’s release, as uncertainty grew around the surety arrangement tied to his bail.
Malami had earlier met all bail terms, including a ₦500 million bond, provision of landed property documents, and submission of travel papers, but chose to remain in custody over concerns of possible rearrest by the Department of State Services after leaving the prison.
The case is unfolding alongside wider legal trouble, as a court has ordered the temporary forfeiture of 57 assets linked to Malami and his sons, valued at over ₦213 billion, while investigations into alleged money laundering and other claims continue.
