Popular Fuji musician Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde, widely known as KWAM1, has written again to Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, claiming he was excluded from the selection process for the next Awujale of Ijebu and urging that the nomination be canceled to avoid legal complications.

In a letter dated January 14, 2026, sent through his lawyer Dr. Wahab Shittu, KWAM1 asked the governor to declare the Fusengbuwa Ruling House’s January 12 nomination meeting null and void, alleging it violated the Ogun State Obas and Chiefs Law 2021.

He criticized the introduction of a “delegate system” and the exclusion of certain eligible members from the meeting, describing it as an arbitrary action that undermined the ruling house’s responsibility to conduct a fair and transparent nomination.

Following the death of Oba Sikiru Adetona, it was the turn of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House to present candidates for the Awujale stool. KWAM1 noted that the Secretary of Ijebu Ode Local Government, in a letter dated January 6, 2026, instructed the ruling house to hold a statutory meeting for the nomination in line with customary laws and state chieftaincy regulations.

However, KWAM1 alleged that at the January 12 meeting at Bisrod Hotel, he and other eligible members were blocked from entering by security personnel, including the police. Only selected “delegates” chosen by a faction of the ruling house were allowed in—a system he said was imposed without the consent of other members.

“The deliberate exclusion denied our client and other members the right to participate in the nomination process,” the letter stated, adding that the exercise conducted without full participation is “procedurally defective, unlawful, and void.”

KWAM1 urged Governor Abiodun to annul the January 12 nomination and order a fresh, transparent, and inclusive process, ensuring all eligible members, including himself, are allowed to participate.

Earlier, 95 candidates—94 princes and one princess from the Fusengbuwa Ruling House—were presented at the nomination meeting at Bisrod Hall, GRA, Ijebu Ode. The exercise was led by Chairman Otunba Abdulateef Owoyemi, his deputy Prince Adedokun Ajidagba, and Vice Chairman Prof. Fassy Yusuf, with local government officials attending as observers.

Owoyemi praised the family for maintaining peace during the exercise, noting that the process aimed to select an Awujale who would advance Ijebuland.

KWAM1 has declared his intention to contest for the throne, but the Fusengbuwa family insists he is not a member and therefore ineligible.

He had earlier approached the Ogun State High Court in Ijebu Ode seeking an injunction to halt the process, but the court dismissed the application. KWAM1 later withdrew the suit without explanation.

In a previous letter dated January 8, KWAM1 had also criticized the delegate system, arguing that it disenfranchised members and violated both the chieftaincy declaration and Ogun State law. Prof. Yusuf dismissed the latest letter as “arrant nonsense,” while the state government has yet to respond.
