A man arrested for allegedly racially abusing Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo during the Premier League opener has been banned from every football stadium in the UK.
The incident occurred during Friday’s match against Liverpool at Anfield, which was briefly halted in the first half after Semenyo alerted the referee.
Merseyside Police confirmed that a 47-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested the following day on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence and has been released on bail.
His bail conditions bar him from attending any regulated football match in the UK and prohibit him from going within a mile of any football stadium. Police say the investigation is ongoing.
Semenyo, 25, scored twice in the match as Bournemouth fought back from two goals down before losing 4-2. On social media, the Ghanaian international praised the solidarity shown at Anfield, writing that it was a night he would never forget.
“Football showed its best side when it mattered most,” he said, thanking his teammates, Liverpool players and supporters, along with Premier League officials for their professionalism.
