May Edochie, estranged wife of Nollywood actor Yul Edochie, is demanding ₦1 billion in damages from her former lawyer, Emeka Ugwuonye, accusing him of defamation, cyberbullying, and breach of trust.
In a cease-and-desist letter sent through her legal team, Graylaw Partners, May alleged that Ugwuonye has been spreading false and damaging claims about her on social media, describing his actions as a deliberate attack on her reputation and personal safety.
The letter claims Ugwuonye’s posts “transcend mere defamation, constituting ridicule, unwarranted and harmful behaviour, and malicious threats, while spreading demonstrably false allegations.”
May further accused him of creating multiple online platforms, including a WhatsApp group, aimed at tarnishing her image, and unlawfully sharing her privileged information for personal gain. She also alleged that Ugwuonye presented himself as a legal practitioner without proper legal standing, exploiting her trust for profit.
The letter added that his actions have encouraged others to amplify the defamatory content, worsening the damage to her reputation.
May’s demands include the immediate removal of all defamatory posts, a public apology and retraction across all platforms, and the payment of ₦1 billion in damages.
