MMIA Terminal Closed After Electrical Spark
Smoke disrupted operations on Wednesday at the temporary terminal of Murtala Muhammed International Airport after an electrical spark broke out in an office around 14:05 hours.
The incident led to an immediate shutdown of Terminal 3 as a safety measure, affecting passengers and flights scheduled at the facility.
The disruption followed a swift response by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, whose emergency fire team moved in quickly to contain the situation before it escalated.
No injuries were reported, and there was no need for a full evacuation during the incident.
Authorities said the spark occurred during ongoing electrical operations within the terminal.
Flights earlier scheduled for Terminal 3 were redirected to Terminal 2, with passengers advised to adjust their plans accordingly while safety checks continued.
Maintenance teams are now working to ensure all electrical systems are stable before reopening the terminal.
The latest incident comes weeks after a previous fire outbreak at the airport, raising fresh concerns about infrastructure safety and operational reliability.
