NECO Results Spark Mixed Reactions Nationwide
The National Examinations Council has released the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination external results, showing that more than 80 per cent of candidates earned five credits and above.
The announcement was made on Tuesday in Minna by the council’s Registrar and Chief Executive, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, during a press briefing at NECO headquarters.
Declaring the release in a video shared on NECO’s X page, Prof. Wushishi said, “It is my pleasure to declare the 2025 SSCE External Results released.”
He added, “Candidates can access their results on the NECO official website, www.neco.gov.ng, using their examination registration number.” A total of 96,979 candidates registered for sixteen subjects, with 95,160 eventually sitting for the examination.
The breakdown showed strong performance in core subjects. In English Language, 78.32 per cent scored credit and above, while Mathematics recorded a higher success rate of 91.35 per cent.
Overall, 71.63 per cent achieved five credits including English and Mathematics, while 86.26 per cent reached five credits regardless of the two subjects.
The results also revealed a rise in examination misconduct. About 9,016 candidates were booked for malpractice, marking an increase from last year.
Five supervisors were recommended for blacklisting, while four centres across Niger, Yobe, and Kano states were marked for de-recognition. The SSCE external exam remains an option mainly for private candidates seeking certification or better grades outside the regular school system.
