Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Ibrahim Gusau has reaffirmed his support for Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle, confirming that the Franco-Malian tactician will continue leading the national team after Nigeria secured third place at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Speaking after the tournament, Gusau praised the team’s progress under Chelle and emphasized the federation’s commitment to working with him as Nigeria looks to build on its strong performance.
“The team is approaching a level where it can perform almost on autopilot and will achieve greater success under the current technical staff,” Gusau said in a statement via the NFF.
He added, “The NFF is proud of the team’s performance and will continue to support and motivate both players and technical crew. Mr Chelle has done exceptionally well in his first year, showing remarkable capacity and leadership, and we remain committed to working with him.”
Nigeria defeated Egypt 4-2 on penalties in the bronze medal match at Stade Mohamed V in Casablanca on Saturday after a goalless draw in regulation time, securing third place.
This marks the country’s ninth third-place finish at the Africa Cup of Nations and their 17th podium appearance in 21 tournaments, with the only medal-less campaigns occurring in 1963, 1982, 2008, and 2021.
