Nigeria’s Super Eagles are set to face DR Congo’s Leopards in the final of the 2026 World Cup Africa qualifiers in Morocco on Sunday.
The Super Eagles booked their spot after a thrilling 4-1 victory over Gabon following extra time at the Moulay Hassan Stadium in Rabat.
DR Congo earned their place in the final with a dramatic 1-0 win against Cameroon in the second semi-final at Stade El Barid. Captain Chancel Mbemba scored a stoppage-time header from a Brian Cipenga corner in the first minute of added time, stunning the five-time African champions.
Cameroon, holders of the African record for the most World Cup appearances with eight, will miss out on next year’s expanded 48-team tournament after losing their automatic spot in the playoffs to Cape Verde, who will make their World Cup debut.
The winner of the Africa playoff final will advance to the six-team intercontinental qualifier in Mexico by March 2026, which will determine the final two nations to secure spots at the 2026 World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
