Nigerians Saw Me As A Miracle Performer – Obasanjo
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said that many Nigerians viewed him as a miracle performer when he returned to power in 1999 after years of military rule.
He explained that the mood in the country at the time was filled with high expectations.
After decades of instability and authoritarian leadership, citizens were eager for change and believed his administration would quickly fix deep rooted problems.
Obasanjo noted that the transition from military to civilian rule placed enormous pressure on his government.
According to him, people expected rapid reforms in the economy, security and public institutions.
He said those expectations shaped the early years of his presidency, as Nigerians looked to him to steady the nation and restore confidence in democratic governance.
