Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has been moved from the Department of State Services (DSS) detention facility in Abuja to a correctional facility in Sokoto.

The relocation was confirmed by Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, on X on Friday, November, who said the move places Kanu far from his family, legal team, and supporters.

Ejimakor wrote, “Breaking: MAZI NNAMDI KANU has just been moved from DSS Abuja to the correctional facility (prison) in Sokoto; so far away from his lawyers, family, loved ones, and well-wishers.”

The transfer comes after a Federal High Court in Abuja sentenced Kanu to life imprisonment on Thursday, November 20, following convictions on all seven terrorism-related charges brought by the DSS.

Justice James Omotosho, who delivered the judgment, said Kanu’s crimes were serious enough to merit the death penalty. However, citing scriptural guidance and mercy, the judge imposed a life sentence, noting that Kanu showed no remorse for his actions.
