The Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has expelled Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, the House of Representatives member for Kiru/Bebeji constituency, over alleged anti-party activities and failure to fulfill his financial obligations to the party.
Chairman of the party in Kano, Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, announced the expulsion while briefing journalists on Saturday, accusing Jibrin of repeatedly attacking the party and its leadership in the media.
The development comes less than 24 hours after Jibrin suggested it should not surprise anyone if he decided to leave the party, stressing that he was old enough to make his own political choices.
Dungurawa dismissed Jibrin as a “weak politician” whose electoral victory was only possible through the Kwankwasiyya movement and the NNPP platform. “If he was truly strong politically, he would have won his election under the APC, but he failed. It was when he joined NNPP through Kwankwasiyya that he became a House of Reps member. Now he is deceiving himself thinking he is strong,” he said.
He noted that a reconciliation committee had initially been set up to engage Jibrin after his interview with Channels Television, but said his subsequent public statements proved he had crossed the line. “Instead of dialogue, he went further to work against our interest, openly declaring loyalty outside the party. That is why we expelled him. He has no value to add,” Dungurawa stated.
The NNPP chairman also accused Jibrin of defaulting on mandatory party dues and vowed legal action to recover the funds. “We will drag him to court to recover what he owes the party. It is a constitutional requirement for every member to pay dues, but he has consistently failed to do so,” he added.
On speculations that Jibrin may return to the APC, Dungurawa insisted such a move would not affect the NNPP’s strength, stressing that politics is about groups and coalitions and that Kwankwasiyya remains firmly behind its leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
