Okonkwo Demands Bail For El Rufai
Kenneth Okonkwo has alleged that Nasir El Rufai is being persecuted because of his political affiliation with the African Democratic Congress.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Morning Brief, Okonkwo criticised the continued detention of the former governor and called for his immediate release.
He argued that security agencies should not keep a suspect in detention while claiming investigations are ongoing, stressing that arrests should only follow completed investigations.
Okonkwo maintained that accusations alone do not justify detention and insisted that in criminal cases the burden of proof lies with the prosecution.
He said El-Rufai should be granted bail while any legal process continues, adding that the courts remain the only authority empowered to determine guilt.
Okonkwo also suggested that responsibility ultimately rests with the federal government led by Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that agencies such as the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, and the Department of State Services operate under the authority of the presidency.
He concluded that if any wrongdoing is established against El-Rufai, the matter should be handled through the courts in line with due process.
