Nigerian rapper and music mogul Olamide has clarified his remarks about Wizkid being the greatest Afrobeats artist, amid reactions from fans and critics.
On his X page, Olamide wrote:
“Honestly, this whole lengthy 3-way conversation is pretty much whatever. You can’t diminish anyone’s greatness, whether they’re A-list, B-list, or anything else. Feel free to believe what you want or support whoever you choose—there’s plenty of room in the sky for everyone.
However, one thing to remember is that Burna, David, and Wiz aren’t narrow-minded enough to get offended by someone else’s opinion or perspective. That’s part of why they’ve reached where they are today.”
The clarification comes after Olamide sparked debate at an event in Toronto, where he said, “After Fela, Wizkid is the greatest Afrobeats artist ever.”
He stressed that his comments were a personal opinion and not intended to undermine other Afrobeats stars such as Burna Boy and Davido, pointing out that their success stems from talent, hard work, and the ability to rise above criticism.
Olamide’s statement has reignited conversations around Afrobeats greatness, with the rapper reminding fans that the genre has space for multiple stars to shine simultaneously.
