Ondo APC Moves Ahead Despite Court Order
The All Progressives Congress in Ondo State has said its state congress will hold on Tuesday despite a Federal High Court order stopping it.
The party’s National Vice Chairman for the South West, Isaacs Kekemeke, said he was unaware of any directive from the national headquarters instructing a halt to the exercise.
Earlier on Monday, a Federal High Court in Akure restrained the APC and the Independent National Electoral Commission from going ahead with the congress.
Justice Toyin Adegoke also nullified the ward and local government congresses held in February and ordered all parties to maintain the status quo pending the hearing of a substantive suit filed by aggrieved members.
In a statement by the state Publicity Secretary, Alex Kalejaye, the party maintained that the congress was approved by its National Working Committee and invited delegates and stakeholders to attend.
The suit was filed by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria on behalf of thousands of party members challenging the process.
The dispute follows violent incidents during the ward congress in Idanre, where two people were confirmed dead and several others injured.
Police said 13 suspects were arrested, while the party’s Akure office was earlier attacked, leaving the state chairman injured.
