Court Sets Strict Bail Terms To Yakubu Adamu And Other Terrorism Case
Court Sets Strict Bail Terms In High Profile Case
A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to Bauchi State Commissioner for Finance, Yakubu Adamu, and three other civil servants facing charges linked to alleged terrorism financing.
The decision came on Wednesday after weeks of legal arguments and growing public interest in the case.
The bail, set at a total of N400 million, requires each defendant to provide N100 million and two senior civil servants as sureties.
The court also ordered them to submit their international passports, remain within the country unless permitted, and report weekly to the Department of State Services office in Bauchi. The matter was adjourned until March 26 for further hearing.
Justice Mohammed Umar approved the bail after ruling that prosecutors failed to show clear evidence that the defendants might flee or obstruct justice.
The case centres on claims that between January and May 2024, large sums of money running into about 9.7 million dollars were moved in cash without passing through recognised financial institutions.
The defendants, including Adamu who once worked as a bank manager, have denied all allegations and pleaded not guilty. The court will now proceed to hear the case in full as authorities continue investigations into the wider claims surrounding the transactions.
