Past Remarks Fuels Wike’s Shooting Controversy
Fresh controversy has emerged around Nyesom Wike after older recordings from 2016 resurfaced, following backlash over his recent “shoot” comment directed at Seun Okinbaloye of Channels Television.
The latest criticism began after Wike, during a media interaction, said he would have “shot” the TV anchor while reacting to comments made on a political programme.
The remark quickly drew reactions from media groups, civil society, and opposition figures.
Amid the backlash, reports of past incidents from his time as Rivers State governor have resurfaced.
These include a 2016 audio recording in which he was allegedly heard issuing threats during conversations linked to election activities involving officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Another leaked exchange from the same period also showed a conversation between Wike and former Ekiti governor Ayodele Fayose, where strong and controversial language was used while discussing political events at the time.
The development has deepened the ongoing debate over political language, accountability, and the tone of public discourse in Nigeria.
