The National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Debo Ologunagba, has reaffirmed that former President Goodluck Jonathan remains a member of the party.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Wednesday, Ologunagba addressed growing speculation that Jonathan could emerge as the PDP’s presidential candidate in the 2027 election. While Jonathan has neither confirmed nor denied any interest in running, Ologunagba made it clear that he has not left the party.
“President Jonathan is still a member of this party because he has not resigned,” he stated.
He, however, refused to be drawn into discussions on whether former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi might return to the PDP.
“Mr Peter Obi was a presidential candidate in the last election for another political party. He has not indicated interest in joining the party. So for me, it will be improper to begin to comment on that,” Ologunagba explained.
Highlighting PDP’s internal strength, he stressed that the party has several qualified leaders who can represent Nigerians in 2027.
“What I can comment on is our capacity, even as we stand, that we have exceedingly qualified individuals. You mentioned Governor Makinde — of course, that’s one of our poster boys in this party in terms of performance, capacity, and galvanizing Nigerians.
“So for us, we have in this party today various eminently qualified Nigerians and governors who are performing, and Nigeria can recognize that PDP states remain centers of development in this country,” Ologunagba said.
